History of Cardinals

HistoryOfCardinals.com is the largest online library dedicated to the history, players, and stories of the St. Louis Cardinals — created and written entirely by my dad, Tom Knuppel.

What it Is?

HistoryOfCardinals.com is a passion project that turned into the internet’s deepest resource for Cardinals history. My dad, Tom Knuppel, wrote every single article on the site — thousands of player bios, team stories, and historical notes that together form a living archive of one of baseball’s greatest franchises.

I helped get the site off the ground — setting up the hosting, design, and content systems — but the work and words are 100% his. What started as a side hobby grew into the go-to destination for Cardinals fans and historians alike.

Timeline Snapshot

  • 2016: Launched the site
  • 2018: Added tons of content pages

Why I Built It

This project came straight from passion. My dad has always been a lifelong Cardinals fan, fascinated by the team’s history and stories. He wanted a place to share what he knew and to preserve it for others.

For me, it was a chance to help him take that passion online — giving it a home, a platform, and a reach far beyond what he could have imagined writing in a notebook or filing cabinets. Together, we built something lasting.

What We Offer

  1. Player Bios – Hundreds of detailed write-ups on past Cardinals players
  2. Historical Articles – Stories, moments, and stats spanning the team’s long history
  3. Reference Library – A massive archive that Cardinals fans can learn from and explore
  4. Community Value – A true labor of love that connects fans to the team’s past

Where It’s At Now

  • Content: Thousands of articles, all original, all created by my dad
  • Traffic: Strong organic reach from fans and researchers looking for Cardinals history
  • Monetization: Currently none — it’s been pure passion and publishing
  • Future Potential:
    • Redesign with a clean, modern layout
    • Introduce monetization (ads, merch, eBooks, memberships)
    • Automate and streamline publishing while preserving authenticity
    • Turn it into a case study in taking a content-rich but unmonetized site and building a real business from it

Final Thoughts

History Of Cardinals is special. It’s not just another website — it’s the written legacy of my dad’s love for the Cardinals, preserved online for fans everywhere.

The next step is to honor that work by giving it a modern design, a monetization engine, and an automated system to keep it running long-term. That way, the largest Cardinals history library on the web doesn’t just sit — it thrives, sustains itself, and reaches new generations of fans.
