After walking the closed Traitors bars at Universal's Great Movie Escape, I didn't have to go far for lunch. Right below them is Fat One's Hot Dogs & Italian Ice, Joey Fatone's premium gourmet hot dog spot. Yes, Joey Fatone from NSYNC. His face is on the sign.
The setup is fun. You order at the window, and the seating outside is stadium-style, old ballpark seats in red and green bolted next to little tables, so it feels like grabbing a dog at a game. The menu is short and all hot dogs, and three or four of them were tempting, including some spicy ones. The Brazilian is $14.99, the Angelo, Dirty K-Pop Dog and To-NY are $10.49 each, El Fons! and the Cubano are $13.99, Johnny's Pizza is $12.49 and the Vegan is $13.99. There are loaded pop fries for $7.49, plus draft beer and Italian ice.
I went with the signature, The Fat One, $15.99. It's a footlong piled high with roasted pork, pepperoni, chili beans, cheddar cheese sauce, red onion sauce, fries and chives on a soft bun. It's a lot, and it's a mess in the best way. Super tasty and juicy, every bite had something going on, and it came out fast.
Knup 7.5 / 10. My 10-point scale compares against every restaurant, not just hot dog stands, so a 7.5 is about the highest I'd ever give a hot dog place. On a hot dog scale, this is a 5 out of 5. Next time I'm trying one of the spicy ones.
