Friday date night at Don Julio in Lake Nona — the Mexican spot near Eagle Creek Sarah and I have been to more times than I can count. We already know the room. This is the first time I am putting a Knup score on it.
Mexican is our cuisine. That also means the bar is high. Fiesta Cancún is sitting at 9.6 for fajitas, energy, and a room that actually wants you there. Don Julio is not that night. It does not have to be. It just cannot pretend it is.
Food: 7.2. We like the food here. This visit was fajitas — chicken, steak, and the pork, plus avocado. Chicken and steak were really good. Pork was clumpy and the miss on the skillet. Flavor was fine, not huge — I wanted more taste than we got. Chips and salsa are still a reason we come back. Portions are not Fiesta Cancún. We have had better fajitas, including at that Altamonte table.
Service: 6.0. Average, and a little sour. They dropped one salsa and then stalled forever on a second. My Arnold Palmer took about five minutes. The server did not feel like she wanted to be there — not engaged, a little rude. Maybe we are pickier now that we are scoring nights. It still dinged the date.
Atmosphere: 7.4. Cool energy. Cool vibe. Really, really loud. Friday night Lake Nona Mexican volume — fun until you are trying to talk across the table.
Knup 7.1 / 10. Nothing really wrong. Nothing really great. We will keep going because it is close and we like Mexican. We will also keep telling the truth: this is a solid neighborhood fajita night, not the one we measure everything else against.

Sarah and I have been to Don Julio in Lake Nona a bunch of times and we still like coming here for Mexican. Friday date night, fajitas with chicken, steak, and pork plus the avocado. Chicken and steak were really good. Pork was clumpy and the weaker of the three. Chips and salsa are always a reason we come back — this visit they brought one salsa and it took forever to get a second. Arnold Palmer took about five minutes. Room had great energy but it was really loud. Service was just average — our server did not seem like she wanted to be there. Still a solid Lake Nona Mexican spot. Not the best fajitas we have had (Fiesta Cancún in Altamonte still owns that). We will be back, just not as a special-occasion table.
